FAQ’s

Is therapy a good idea?
Some may feel as though therapy/counseling is a sign of weakness.  Many believe that individuals ought to be able to solve their issues on their own.   Others see family and friends as their best source to work through their issues.   Having a solid support system is important, but may not always be the best place to get help with an objective person to bounce ideas and issues off of.  Therapy is a safe and confidential  place where you are able to discuss issues that you have not been able to let out with others you trust.

How long will it take?
There is no set amount of time therapy works for anyone.  Some individuals are able to speak with a therapist a few times and feel as though they are able to work through their unique issues without further help.  Others may utilize services for months or years.  Many clients utilize my services either weekly or bi-weekly depending on their unique circumstances and financial ability.  Frequency of sessions is something we can discuss further after we initially meet and assess your goals.

How long is a session?  What is your schedule?
Sessions are 45-50 minutes long.  My schedule is dynamic and may be viewed here.

Hours Vary By Therapist

What will my first counseling session be like?
At our first appointment, I ask that you arrive a few minutes early to complete the paperwork.  During this session we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your history, family and goals.  You will also have an opportunity to address any questions you have.  See my blog post for more information.

How do I make an appointment? Where are you located?
You may schedule with me via phone/text (920-215-1553) or on my online scheduling page here.   My office is based in Menasha, but I also have limited appointment times in Oshkosh.

Do you accept health insurance?
Yes, we currently accept Medicaid (Title 19), Beacon/ValueOptions,  MVP, EmblemHealth, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare, UMR, Network Health, Trilogy and Out of Network plans.   Please note that your co-pay (if you have one) is due at time of service.

I will also be happy to work with you if I am not an “in-network” provider.  For insurances I am not credentialed with, my services are considered “out-of-network” benefits.  Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan.  Therefore, you will be required to pay for therapy out of pocket, depending on your benefits.  Please know that your rate will be based on what your insurance companies reimburse, which I have no control over.

Questions to ask your insurance provider before your first session:

  • Does my plan have out-of-network benefits?
  • Do I have a deductible?  How much is it?  Have I met any portion of my deductible with other medical expenses this year?
  • What is the cost or % of each session?  (usually referred to as “co-insurance” payment)
  • Is there a limit for the number of “outpatient” mental health or psychotherapy sessions I am entitled to for the benefit year?
  • Does my plan require “pre-authorization” or a referral from a Medical Doctor (MD) or Primary Care Physician?
  • What amount or % of the psychotherapy fee will be reimbursed?

Why would I not use my insurance benefits?
Using your insurance is a personal choice.  But, knowing what it means to use your insurance can be difficult.  When using insurance for therapy, I am required to provide a diagnosis to the insurance company for reimbursement of services.  This diagnosis will follow you and may be required to be documented on all health documents as a pre-existing condition.

If I do not have insurance, or choose not to use it, do you accept cash payment?
Yes, my cash rate varies from $70-150 per session (50+ minutes) payable at the time of service.   I currently accept cash, personal check, credit card, HSA card/check, Ivy Pay or Pay Pal.

What is your cancellation policy?
Please let me know at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to attend your scheduled time.   There is a nominal charge for late cancelled appointments and no-shows (1/2 of your normal cost), but multiple late cancels/no-shows may end in termination of services.

NSF/Bounced Checks?
